Chakras

The Chakra System

We all have them; so do cats, dogs and mice. You have them. I am refering of course to your chakras, or to use an equally valid term, energy centres. These invisible powerhouses are concerned with energy and the transfer of it within your subtle anatomy (of which you possess at least seven auric bodies). To put it simply, without a chakra system you would not be alive. Even before you were born these were developing, along with the rest of you. Yet it constantly amazes me just how little the world really understands them.

A chakra is like one of those cute little tornadoes in a Disney cartoon. Wide at the top and tapering to a point at the bottom. This conical shaped tornado spins rapidly on its axis, looking like a funnel protruding from the body. A healthy chakra spins evenly and looks healthy. The open end is seen by those with clairvoyant vision as a spinning wheel approximately 150 millimetres in diameter, protruding 25 millimetres out from the skin. When someone's chakras are all open and harmonious they appear equal in size - with the same spin speed, direction and shape (as you look at the body).

Chakras are not static entities. They are vulnerable, vibrant, energetic forces with a great purpose. Even in this so-called new age of enlightenment their role is considerably underestimated and their importance definitely understated. No part of the human condition is separate from the chakra system.

Because there are a number of these centres, each possessing different qualities, it is time to delve deeper and define some of their unique features. The following list demonstrates some of the unique qualities of each chakra:

The Kundalini / Base Chakra is connected to the sacrum, coccyx, and excretery orifaces, plus the spine in general. These organs are associated with the letting go of waste products (including waste feelings and ideas). There is also a condition known as Will to Live associated - in an energetic sense. This centre provides the get-up-and-go energy that athletes totally depend on. Fatigue, a lack of stamina, fatigue, hopelessness, withdrawal, etc are all symptoms of dysfunction. Your connectedness to Mother Earth is via here.

The Sacral Chakra in the pubic region governs the reproductive organs, bladder, intestines, appendix and the lumbar region of the spine. It governs issues of sexuality and balance and the overall process of giving and receiving. Any difficulty you experience with sexual intercourse will be due to this centre not working correctly. When the base and sacral centres are both dysfunctional, the issues are usually related to holding on to old and obsolete ideas.

The Solar Plexus is an important chakra because it is the seat of your emotions. You also absorb the sun's energy in through here. The solar plexus is connected to the liver, kidneys, stomach and other close organs, such as the spleen. Anger resides in this part of the body. A clogged solar plexus could mean you are either aggressive or submissive, or both. Cancer of the liver, stomach ulcers and kidney failure are common afflictions. It, and the heart chakra are the two most vital chakras for our overall health and well being.

The Heart Chakra is connected to the physical heart, lungs, immune system, breasts and the entire circulatory system. Difficulties here create major problems - in more ways than one. This centre is primarily concerned with issues of love; love for others, love from others, and love for Self (plus associated issues of security and trust). More problems occur with this chakra than all the others put together. A dysfunction here will have serious consequences on your health. Sadness reigns supreme in this chakra.

The Throat Chakra is concerned with the expression of creativity and communication. When this centre is clogged there will be difficulties with speaking clearly and the general expression of ideas. In other words, fitting in with the world and other people is hard. Listen to the vocal anger.

The Brow Chakra is linked to the pituitary gland, eyes, nose, ears and the spinal cord. Commonly called "the third eye" it involves communication in ways beyond the physical. At a purely physical level any difficulties you experience with sight, smell, hearing (and possibly taste) can also be linked to this centre. Nightmares and confusion stem from here.

The Crown Chakra at the top of the head is your connectedness (or lack of) with spiritual matters. Thus, issues of spirituality manifest through here. Physically it governs the pineal gland. Brain disorders are often the result of a clogged crown chakra. I struggled for a long time to establish which issues are most responsible. Disconnectedness from and denial of our spirituality seem the most likely culprits.

Fact versus fiction

Pick up any recently published book on healing or natural health and you will most likely read something about chakras. It came to my attention ages ago that many writers still do not have any real understanding about them.

So, to help clarify (or confuse?) the situation, here are my thoughts on this matter:

Chakras are the single most important linkage between the physical body and your many auric bodies. One of their primary functions is the communication channel they provide with your Soul. The healthier your chakras, the more spiritually aware and 'alive' you are (i.e. the channels are said to be "open").

Their natural state is vibrant and immediately responsive. In an emotionally healthy person they change from being wide open to completely shut - at a moment's notice. They also revert from closed to open just as quick. This process is automatic and needs no conscious control. They do that to protect you.

Some people think a good chakra is a permanently shut one. They believe it protects them from intrusion, so they keep them closed as much as possible. You can mentally influence the state of your chakras, but why bother? A healthy chakra will open and close exactly as it needs to. NOTE: There is a huge difference between a 'blocked' chakra (unhealthy) and a merely 'closed' chakra (healthy).

There are seven major chakras, twenty one minor and hundreds lesser still, scattered throughout the body. For most purposes the seven major ones are all you need to understand. The remainder will be deciphered only when mankind is ready to wisely use the information gained. I believe that sometime in the near future this will happen (but not yet). A minor chakra resides in the palm of each hand. In my work, I actively use my palm chakras for accessing and manipulating the client's energy field. A great deal of energy passes through them. They also act as receivers - "tuning" in to the energy field of the recipient.

With the exception of the crown and kundalini, each major chakra has a front and a rear aspect, thus appearing as two separate ones. When someone talks about the seven major chakras, they are in fact describing twelve energy centres. The middle five (sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat and third eye) have in their front facing aspect an emotional flavour, and a mental flavour for the rear facing ones. This helps explain why people are sensitive to being touched on their front, whereas it is acceptable to touch their back. (Think about this statement carefully).

A chakra prevented from opening and closing properly is said to be blocked, - an energy blockage exists. An afflicted chakra will always be closed if it is blocked in any way. Nor can it be forced to stay open when not in the individual's best interest. The front and rear aspects function independently.

It can be said the state of your chakras is an accurate indicator of your emotional health. You can measure the condition (but valid only at the time of measurement) of a chakra using a pendulum. In my experience, most people have between two and seven out of twelve open and harmonious at any time. Only a minority of people ever achieve all twelve completely shut and clogged, or fully open and healthy - over long periods of time.

A chakra operates as a bi-directional valve. Sometimes it lets energy in; sometimes it lets energy out. Sometimes it stops the flow altogether. Although each centre operates independently it is connected to all the others via an energy conduit within the body. Measure a person tomorrow and you would probably get a different set of results than today. The more emotionally shut down a person is, the less responsive the chakras are to daily change - another powerful indicator.

The most widely accepted view of chakras is that each has a particular function and resonates to a particular colour and musical note. They transfer energy from one auric level to another and they transmit and receive energy to the outside world. There are also a number of purely esoteric uses which we shall ignore here, because they are not relevant to this discussion.

There are two pseudo-chakras, poorly documented and generally overlooked that also play a part in this discussion. One is located about a metre above your head and resonates to white. It is your connectedness to the universe (some might call: God). The other is about a metre below your feet and resonates to the colour brown. This provides your bond to Mother Earth. These two energy centres are automatic in operation and no conscious effort is required to activate or utilise them. However, they are not true chakras! Their true purpose extends well beyond our current level of understanding. There are also meridians linking the accepted acupuncture points, core dynamics, plus a whole host of energy paths with funny sounding names. They all have their part to play.

I have studied a large number of chakra drawings from many sources and found the positions as drawn, vary widely. The worst in this regard is the solar plexus. I have seen it drawn below the navel while others have it positioned near the breastbone, where your ribs join. My understanding is that it is within two fingerwidths of the navel. When I work directly on the navel, I get my best results. Another one that seemingly shifts location is the crown chakra at the top of the head. Sometimes it is shown just below the hair line on your brow. I work with it at the highest point on your head, pointing upwards. The Kundalini appears in weird places too. It is correctly located at the base of the spine, pointing down.

There is a great deal more yet to be discovered about the chakra system. No individual or group has all the answers (and certainly not me). Scientists are only now coming to terms with their existence, and able to 'photograph' chakras using computer technology. Until these machines become commonplace we have to rely on clairvoyants, healers, and natural energy workers of all persuasions to provide information - hence the wide range of conflicting ideas we have to contend with.

Every person and every living creature on this planet has a chakra system. If you are alive, then you are definitely included. However, there is little to be gained by being anxious about their condition. But some people are concerned, so they spend thirty minutes each day "balancing" them. A more practical approach is to deal directly with the emotional blockages that keep them unhealthy. When a person is free of serious emotional blockages, their chakras will be automatically healthy and in no need of daily attunement.

Therefore, your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health is intimately linked to the condition of your chakra system.

Chakras as access points

A phenomenon seen in the personal growth industry these days is the proliferation of techniques and processes targeting emotional blockages. It does not really matter how they promote themselves or what they do. It is only the end result that matters. However, all offer an opportunity for change. Some achieve their results through skin tissue manipulation; others use focussed breathing techniques; a few might entice you to scream and shout and thump pillows. Others use concoctions of strange flowers instead. Perhaps bathing in filtered light is your preferred technique. The ultimate aim is to release or provide some sort of relief from misery, which in turn makes you feel better about yourself. But before you can create this real change, something has to happen. Such changes do not occur by themselves.

Every technique will access your chakra system as a necessary part of any change. Once accessed, energy will automatically flow to the part of the body most needing help. It is a universal law that energy goes only to where it is needed. The actual efficiency of energy transfer varies from technique to technique, and Practitioner to Practitioner. This is why some people get good results from one Practitioner, but not from another. Each technique and each Practitioner has something uniquely special to offer.

Even when working solo on yourself you will be accessing your chakra system, be it lifting weights at a gym, praying to God, or whatever. Somehow, you will be utilising your energy centres. Because each chakra has a specific function, you use different ones for different purposes. For instance, the heart chakra represents love and the expression thereof. Someone involved with nursing or in a caring role will use their heart chakra a great deal. By contrast, journalists use their throat chakra predominately - their skill is communication. A blocked throat chakra will make effective communication difficult or even impossible! For an afflicted journalist that would be catastrophic.

When Chakras are blocked

It is a fact of life that human beings are imperfect creatures. Vulnerable and fragile, we try to live our lives the best we can. How many people do you know actually manage to live a fulfilled, healthy and abundant life? A person with a closed down chakra system is certainly not going to be a vibrant, healthy individual. You may know someone whose body is only just coping, has attitudinal difficulties, and is unable to form serious relationships. Their chakra system will be equally unhealthy. Because most people have somewhere between two to seven out of twelve energy centres working correctly, there are still huge problems to resolve globally.

Blockages also have secondary effects. Whole groups or communities can share common issues; a group energy exists under these conditions. In itself, a blocked chakra has a direct effect on your health. It also has indirect effects.

Prostitutes (as a group) are likely to have their solar plexus chakra clogged by anger. The adjacent sacral chakra involves issues of sexuality and balance; the heart chakra involves love. In a healthy adult relationship, sex is linked with love through the common bond of the solar plexus. In a prostitute this link is usually blocked. They may have their sacral and heart chakras working correctly and thus able to work efficiently in a mechanical sense - but they are emotionally detached from their client's feelings. I am not saying this is true in all cases. This is just a generalisation, after all.

Another group to have difficulties with blocked chakras are those with Love Hurts. The heart chakra is afflicted, which means the heart, lungs and circulatory system are all at risk. When these vital organs are threatened: stroke, cardiac arrest, angina, bronchitis, asthma, tuberculosis, and AIDS become a real possibility. These few examples will surely be sufficient incentive to sit up and take notice. The heart chakra is clogged mostly by hurts, especially sadness and grief. Relationship difficulties contribute the bulk of the hurts.

As an example, Trevor has a lesson of unconditional love to resolve. As a child he created a bottom line of Love Hurts. By thirty eight, the energy form representing the issue had clogged the heart chakra enough to prevent it from functioning reliably. This created a weakness in his physical heart. At forty five, a mild heart attack occurred, forcing our incumbent to re-evaluate his personal priorities in life. Trevor now accepts a new way of living - one that is more gentle, with less stress. More importantly, a new outlook based on acceptance was created, and with it the ability to love people better. He is now a lot closer to understanding unconditional love. As an example, this is extreme and, it should be pointed out, also very common. If you feel the urge, make a study of the lives of people who have had a stroke, cardiac failure, or AIDS and compare their before and after lifestyles. Take note also of any change in their belief systems. It will be a revealing exercise!

I have now established a reliable method of predicting the imminent arrival / presence of / continued presence after treatment, of CANCER through the measurement of the chakras. It has proved absolutely reliable in showing up cancer.

If you are concerned with your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing, then consider the state of your own chakra system. Computer based systems are now available that enable you to see on a computer screen (in real time) your chakra system at work. But the equipment cost is beyond most peoples' budget.

Measurement

There are two ways to measure chakras that don't involve expensive hardware. One is subjective; the other: objective.

Subjective measurement involves a meditation / visualisation and 'tuning' in to each chakra and seeing what colour is in it. A clean, bright and vibrant single colour is good. Weak, wishy-washy, dark colours are not good. I teach people how to do this type of assessment in my workshops. It is beyond the scope of this primer to offer it here. Sorry.

Objective measurement of the chakras involves the use of a pendulum. I first read about it in Barbara Ann Brennan's book: "Hands of Light". Chapter 10, to be specific. Since first trying it out 20 years ago I have created my own version which is easier to use and, I believe, produces more meaningful results.

Again, it is beyond the scope of this primer to divulge further information on the technique used. I will add that after doing thousands of readings, some interesting patterns have emerged. These are discussed below:

Assessment

Only about 5% of those measured had both Crown and Kundalini chakras open and harmonious. About 5% had both blocked. The other 90% had one open and one blocked. The most often blocked chakras are the sacral, solar plexus, heart and throat chakras are fairly evenly blocked. The least blocked seem to be the third eye, Crown and Kundalini chakras.

There are also different degrees of "blockedness". Some blockages are mild, while others are absolute. ALL blockages will affect their owner somehow. Dis-ease is created when chakras stay blocked for long periods i.e. many years.

The average number of open chakras is about four or five out of twelve open at any time. Most people fit within the two and seven bracket. People following a "spiritual path" tend to fit in the range of four to nine open and harmonious, with six being the average. In other words, they extend the range by about two. Very few people have eight or more open on a consistent basis. Those that do, tend to stand out in the crowd. They look relaxed, happy, and "alive".

One of the many activities I provide is a chakra measurement and assessment service. It takes about five minutes to read the chakras, and at least twenty to explain the results. With skill, it is possible to provide information on these key areas:

Full information can be found in my book: The Path from Soul to Pain. Including how to measure chakras; lists, tables and charts to guide you, and a step by step procedure for synthesis (i.e. interpretation). Some of my workshops include this technique as an active part of the training.
